The University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) has officially announced applications for the 2026/2027 academic session under the Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development initiative.

This transformative programme is implemented by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and several leading African universities. The goal is to empower young Africans with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to drive sustainable agricultural development across the continent.

About the TAGDev 2.0 Programme

The TAGDev 2.0 initiative is a 10-year programme (2023–2033) focused on transforming higher education institutions in Africa. It aims to produce graduates equipped with innovative, entrepreneurial, and climate-smart agricultural skills capable of addressing real-world challenges in food systems and rural development.

The programme places special emphasis on inclusion and equity, encouraging applications from:

  1. To qualify for the TAGDev 2.0 Scholarship at UNIPORT, applicants must:
  2. Be Nigerian citizens or refugees residing in Nigeria
  3. Come from economically disadvantaged or marginalized backgrounds
  4. Be under 25 years (for undergraduate applicants) or under 30 years (for postgraduate applicants)
  5. Meet all UNIPORT admission requirements
  6. Show strong interest in agriculture, leadership, and community development
