The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has formally announced its 38th Convocation Ceremony, marking a significant milestone for graduating students and the institution at large.
The ceremony will span over a week, featuring a series of well-structured academic and ceremonial activities designed to celebrate academic excellence, research innovation, and institutional growth.
Programme of Events
The convocation activities will commence on Thursday, 2nd April 2026, with a Press Conference by the Vice-Chancellor, setting the tone for the events ahead.
On Tuesday, 7th April 2026, activities will include an Inter-Denominational Service at the Senator Godswill Akpabio Conference Centre, followed by a Research Fair and Exhibition showcasing academic and scientific contributions from various faculties.
The schedule continues on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, with the Convocation Meeting, bringing together key stakeholders within the university community.
A major highlight comes on Thursday, 9th April 2026, featuring the Convocation Lecture delivered by Major General Garba Ayodeji Wahab (Ph.D) on the topic:
“Redefining National Security in an Era of Endemic Insecurity: The Role of Tertiary Institutions.”
This will be followed by a Cultural Performance at the Chinua Achebe Arts Theatre.
On Friday, 10th April 2026, the university will host the Award of Diplomas, First Degrees, and Master’s Degrees, alongside the Induction of
Graduands into the Alumni Body at the Abraham Ordia Stadium. The day will conclude with a Gala Night for Ph.D Graduands and their Supervisors.
The events will continue on Saturday, 11th April 2026, with the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and Honorary Degrees, as well as the
Commissioning of Projects and Launch of the Endowment Fund.
Finally, the ceremony will wrap up on Sunday, 12th April 2026, with a Thanksgiving Service.
Important Information for Graduands
Graduands are required to obtain their academic gowns from their respective faculty officers upon presentation of payment evidence. Late returns will attract penalties.

Scrolls and certificates
Endowment contributions
All hired gowns must be returned within seven (7) days after the convocation to avoid sanctions.
Each graduand will receive an invitation card for a guest, while participation in the convocation procession must strictly follow institutional guidelines. Photography during the procession is prohibited.
Additionally, all graduands are expected to complete their alumni registration and pay the required fees through their faculty offices.
